CHART INPUTS EXPLAINED
Why birthplace and time zone matter in a BaZi chart
A chart is only as transparent as its inputs: record the time where the birth happened, not the time zone where you live now.
Use the original local record
Enter the date and clock time recorded at the birthplace. A later move, current residence, or a time-zone conversion made for travel should not replace the original civil-time context. This is why a calculator asks for a structured country, region, and city instead of treating a free-text location as a decorative field.
Time-zone handling is part of the calculation boundary
The visible pillars depend on a stated calendar and time convention. Near a date boundary or a traditional hour boundary, a different local-time assumption can affect the result shown by a calculator. A trustworthy tool should state the inputs it used and should not silently claim precision when the birthplace or time is missing.
What to enter when details are incomplete
Use the most reliable birth record you have. If the city is unknown, retain the region or country only when the tool explains the resulting time-zone limitation. If the hour is unknown, do not invent one. Start with the parts of the chart that can be checked, and label the Hour Pillar as unavailable rather than complete.
What to compare before reading an interpretation
Confirm the displayed birthplace, IANA time zone, local date, and local time before reading a summary. If a family recollection conflicts with a written record, treat it as a scenario to investigate, not as a fact to overwrite. This protects both the calculation and the reader from false precision.
Keep sensitive details private
Birth information can identify a person when combined with other data. Enter only your own details or information you are authorized to use. MingLens uses the result for cultural reflection and does not provide medical, legal, financial, mental-health, or guaranteed future advice.
